The CD31 antigen, also known as Platelet Endothelial Cell Adhesion Molecule 1 (PECAM-1), is a transmembrane glycoprotein of 130 kDa related to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed on stem cells of the myeloid lineage, on platelets and on endothelial cell junctions. CD31 is involved in the migration of leucocytes through the endothelial cell wall, via adhesion to α v β 3 integrin and to CD38. In addition, CD31 participates in outside-in signaling in leucocytes likely through phosphorylation of its intracytoplasmic tyrosine residues 663 and 686 and subsequent association with tyrosine phosphatases SHP-1 and SHP-2. Studies suggest a comparable mechanism of action for CD31 in activation and aggregation of platelets. CD31

Fc γ RII proteins exist as six potential isoforms encoded by three genes, designated as A, B, and C. The reported molecular weight of these isoforms are variable between 37 and 43 kDa. All isoforms are similar but not identical in their extracellular regions. The cytoplasmic portion of Fc γ RIIA and Fc γ RIIC contains an activatory ITAM motif whereas Fc γ RIIB contains an inhibitory ITIM motif. Differential splicing of Fc γ RIIB gene yields to 2 isoforms Fc γ RIIBb1 and Fc γ RIIBb2. Monocytes carry all forms of Fc γ RII, neutrophils carry Fc γ RIIA and C.
